Young people from Foróige’s Westview Project in Cork received plaudits from Cork City Council, Cork ETB, UCC and CIT for their contribution to the third annual UNESCO Learning Cities Conference, which was recently hosted in Cork.

Conference delegates included mayors, city education executives and UNESCO experts, along with international organisations, non-government organisations and private-sector partners who are experts in the field of lifelong learning.

As part of Westview’s social enterprise strategy, their woodwork group under the guidance of volunteers Dan Pardy and Dick Walker made two portable blackboards for the 500 plus delegates to record their opinions and experiences on specific topics discussed at the seminar. Following their use in the International Conference, these blackboards have now been donated to the Crawford College of Art & Design, where they will be used in the delivery of their community based programmes.
