Congratulations to Aoife O'Neill (14), Crossbridge Foróige Club, Co. Wicklow, and Isobel Donnery (15) from Camross Loft Foróige Club, Co. Wicklow, who are through to the semi-final of the Aldi National Junior Baking Competition.
They beat stiff competition at the Regional Baking Final in Dublin yesterday, July 18th.
The theme for 2016 is ‘Muffins of the Moment’, with Isobel baking Lemon Drizzle Muffins, while Aoife baked Rose Chocolate Muffins.
A Race Night held in aid of Foróige was organised by Dublin Friends of Foróige and held at Break for the Border on Thursday 30th January. Over €2,000 was raised in aid of youth work. Staff, volunteers, supporters and Foróige alumni turned out in their droves. The night was such a great success that we are looking into making it an annual event on the Foróige Calendar!
As myself and my sister grew up we were counting down the days until we could become members of Foróige - a local hub to socialise with our friends after a hard week at school!
Throughout my childhood I had often heard stories of the great times that were to be had at the local Foróige club in my parish of Kildallan. During the 1980's my father was a leader at the club and often lamented on the adventures the club went on, the people he met and how much the youth of our area enjoyed attending the club, with particular emphasis on club outings and inter-club events.
My older sister Sarah joined the club first and I got to see first-hand how exciting it was to be part of the club as she got into her snow boots and denim mini skirt to head off to her first Foróige disco!
There was a pleasant ramble down memory lane for past and present members of Kanturk Foroige Club on Friday 27th September. In excess of 400 people turned up to celebrate the Kanturk Foróige Club Gathering!
