New Digital Youth Hub Launches in Longford

18th July 2025

A major new milestone for youth work and digital creativity in Longford was reached this week with the official launch of the county’s first-ever Digital Youth Hub at The Attic House.

The Hub was opened by Micheál Carrigy TD and celebrated in the company of Wayne Travers, Chairperson of Foróige; Seán Campbell, CEO of Foróige; and Ruth McGarry Quinn, Chairperson of The Attic House. The event was proudly MC’d by two young people from The Attic, who helped set the tone for a joyful and energising occasion.

Developed by Foróige and The Attic House, and supported by generous funding from Avery Dennison Medical, the new space includes state-of-the-art digital equipment, a creative studio, and one-to-one mentorship opportunities. It’s designed to support young people in building digital confidence, exploring creative technology, and developing essential skills for the future world of work.

The launch also included the FIRST® LEGO® League Explore Showcase, featuring the work of young innovators aged 8–12. Participants presented LEGO® models with robotics elements and posters inspired by the theme “SUBMERGED,” celebrating early STEM learning and creative problem-solving.

Looking ahead, work is underway on a dedicated recording and rehearsal studio on-site, supported by the Community Recognition Fund and Longford County Council. This purpose-built facility will give even more young people the chance to get hands-on with music production and digital media in a professional and inspiring space.
