Community Spirit Shines at Foróige Citizenship 2026

26th May 2026

Foróige young people from across the country gathered over recent weeks to celebrate their Citizenship projects and the positive impact they are making in their communities through a series of regional Citizenship Showcase events.

Events took place across Cork, Cavan Monaghan Louth Meath, the Midlands, Donegal, Dublin North, Sligo Leitrim, the South, Mayo, the South East, Galway, Dublin South and Dublin City, bringing together hundreds of young people, volunteers, families, community leaders and local supporters to recognise months of work, creativity and action.

Across each showcase, young people presented projects focused on issues that matter to them and their communities. From inclusion and wellbeing to community action, awareness campaigns, creativity and local change, the events highlighted the leadership, empathy and determination of Foróige young people across Ireland.

Each event had its own unique energy, with project exhibitions, performances, films, music, speeches and interactive displays creating vibrant spaces for conversation and celebration. Young people had the opportunity to share ideas, connect with peers from other areas and showcase the real difference they are making locally.

Community members, elected representatives, supporters and partner organisations attended throughout the series of events, praising the commitment, innovation and confidence shown by the young people involved. Recognition and awards were presented during the showcases, celebrating the effort, teamwork and impact behind each project.

The Citizenship Programme supports young people to explore issues affecting their communities, take meaningful action and develop skills in leadership, communication, teamwork and active citizenship. The regional showcase events are an opportunity not only to celebrate completed projects, but to highlight the powerful role young people play in shaping stronger, more connected communities.

The showcases also created space for fun, friendship and shared experiences, with plenty of colour, energy and creativity throughout each event. From packed project halls and theatre performances to conversations around showcase tables, the events reflected the passion and pride young people brought to their work.

A huge thank you to all of the young people, volunteers, staff, families, community partners and supporters who helped make this year’s Citizenship Showcase events such a success.
