GoVirtual Facilitates Foróige’s Climate Justice Programme via VR Technology

Bringing young people with similar interests together can be challenging, but Virtual Reality (VR) and Foróiges GoVirtual offers opportunities for them to connect in private, youth work facilitated spaces.

Over Easter 2026, six future thinking young people from around Ireland, including Castlebar, Inis Mór, Ballyhaunis, North Leitrim, Granard, and Mullingar took part in Foróige’s FutureProof Climate Justice programme through VR. All young people and their parents who expressed interest were supported by GoVirtual with VR headsets, tech support and prep sessions to enable their participation. The Young People had at least one thing in common, an interest in the environment and advocating for a better world.

The Foróige FutureProof Programme aims to enable young people to reflect on the importance of a more sustainable future for our planet while exploring solutions to environmental issues. The initiative consisted of six sessions held over three days, plus additional support and project exploration sessions. The six programme sessions were facilitated by Tom Rickard and co-facilitated by Adam Leech, Aoife Lee, Ruairí Kelly, and the e-collective’s own Aisling Harrington. Both staff and young people were scattered around the country but joined together in VR for discussions and fun.

On completion of the programme, and while developing ideas for their Climate Justice Action Project, the young people chose facilitated VR sessions and a staff managed WhatsApp group to develop their Climate Justice Action Project. The young people’s current project includes petitions, an online rubbish game, and a workshop to be delivered to schools on the theme of climate justice. Watch this ‘Virtual’ Space!
