Foróige’s governance is made up 58 members who have been elected from different parts of Foróige – the National Council.
A National Council member is one of the company’s (Foróige’s) owners whose name has been entered on the register of members. The National Council elect and appoint the members of the Board. The Board is accountable to the National Council at the Annual General Meeting. The National Council elections are usually held on 'odd' years i.e. 2015, 2017, 2019 etc. The National Council usually meet a minimum of three times per year.

The Board of Foróige
The purpose of the Board is to direct Foróige’s affairs based on a shared vision, mission and values and to ensure Foróige fulfils its financial and legal responsibilities and promotes best practice. The Board decide upon the policy of Foróige and the strategic direction it may take. The day to day management and operation of Foróige is delegated to the Chief Executive.
Members of the Board are the Directors of Foróige
The Board is elected from the National Council. There are a maximum of 14 members of the Board. It is made up as follows:
- 6 members elected from club representatives on the National Council
- 3 members elected from Volunteer Association representatives on the National Council
- 2 members elected from Reference Panel Representatives on the National Council (these members of the Board may only be Directors if they are 18 years old - otherwise they are Observers on the Board)
- 3 members are External Appointees with specific expertise
The Term of Office for a Board Member is usually two years and no Board Member may serve more than two consecutive terms. Elections to the Board are usually held in 'odd' years i.e;. 2015, 2017, 2019 etc
Reference Panel Representative Members of the Board serve for one year.

Seek to ensure Foróige provides high quality services that meet priority needs and are regularly reviewed.
Planning and Monitoring
Seek to ensure that Foróige has a clear sense of direction, which is effectively articulated in agreed strategic and operational plans and policies, effectively implemented and regularly reviewed.
Governance
Seek to ensure that Foróige is effectively and accountably governed
Financial
Seek to ensure that Foróige resources are managed prudently and accountably in achieving the aims and objectives of Foróige
Human Resources
Seek to ensure that Foróige fulfils its responsibilities as a good employer of staff and volunteers
Company and Charity Law Compliance
Seek to ensure that Foróige fulfils its all legal responsibilities as a charitable company
Child Protection
Seek to ensure that the safety and protection of young people is of paramount importance and that all reasonable care is taken to protect all young people involved in its services from abuse of any kind.
Health and Safety
Seek to ensure that Foróige fulfils its responsibilities for the safety, health and welfare of young people, volunteers, staff and visitors
External Relations
Seek to ensure that every reasonable effort is made to create and maintain good relationships with other relevant agencies
Funding and Fundraising
Seek to ensure that Foróige generates sufficient income to achieve its aims and objectives.
