Leadership for Life Online - Overview
Over the past year, the Leadership for Life team at Foróige have been developing a purpose-built, online version of the Leadership for Life programme. This is to meet the demand that exists for the programme and to increase its accessibility, both in Ireland and abroad.
Led by the Online Learning Officer, the team has adapted and updated the course materials for online delivery, maintaining the original aims and objectives of the NUIG-accredited face-to-face programme.
In Leadership for Life Online, a facilitator and co-facilitator lead each session, using Zoom and Moodle to communicate with participants and share resources. Participants are part of a group of between 8 and 20 young people aged 15-18. Everyone completes online and workbook activities, as well as making presentations at the end of Modules 1 and 2. Module 3 remains mostly the same, in that it is self-directed with support from a mentor.
A variety of online learning tools are used that engage young people in unique ways, including DocHub, Padlet and Kahoot. This updated version of the programme was trialled in a series of test sessions with a number of different groups during 2021 using Moodle Cloud. It has received excellent feedback from facilitators and young people alike. We then created a full Moodle version of the programme with additional features, so we are extremely excited to launch this new platform and increase the reach of the programme in 2022.

LFL Online - Facilitator Training
The Leadership for Life Online facilitator workshops provide Leadership for Life Facilitators with the opportunity to be upskilled to deliver the Leadership programme through the online learning platform Moodle.
The training is designed to upskill people who are already trained as Leadership for Life facilitators and have experience of delivering the programme (online or face-to-face).
The workshops focus on a few separate strands of facilitator development. These include:
- Tools for facilitating Leadership for Life online
- Using Moodle as a facilitator
- Exploring the new Leadership activities
- Managing the online delivery of the programme.
As well as learning how to use Moodle as a facilitator, participants will also be trained to use Zoom, Kahoot, Padlet, DocHub, Slides and Sheets to run the Leadership programme.
