Proud moments in Belmullet this week as the Foróige and Microsoft Dream Space Showcase took place in Áras Inis Gluaire.
The event brought together young people aged 10 to 13 from Foróige Clubs and local schools to present original STEM projects developed through the Foróige Go programme and Dream Space resources. Each project explored a real-world challenge and demonstrated the creativity, skill and teamwork of the young people involved.
Foróige Go is a digital youth work programme that empowers young people to develop the skills they need for what’s now and next – from coding, robotics and design, to empathy, critical thinking and digital citizenship. By using tools like micro:bits and drawing inspiration from Dream Space TV, the young people involved were able to explore big ideas through hands-on learning and digital creativity.
The Belmullet event was developed in collaboration with local Foróige teams and schools to ensure young people in rural areas could access the same high-quality digital opportunities as those in larger towns and cities.
Support and training for the programme was provided earlier this year in Castlebar, helping local staff, clubs and schools to prepare for the showcase and bring the event to life.
The result was a powerful celebration of youth-led innovation, with young people confidently presenting their work and inspiring all who attended.
The Foróige and Microsoft Dream Space Showcase is one more example of what can happen when young people are given space to lead, create and be heard.
