Life for Young People in Ireland during the Covid 19 Pandemic

Young People from Foróige Capture Life in Lockdown 2020

Winter Lockdown Donegal Foróige's Video Message to #Holdfirm

As we enter the winter of 2020 in lockdown due to yet more Covid-19 restrictions, we simply cannot be glum when viewing the upbeat video message from Foróige Donegal. In this video, they are refreshing our memories about stepping back to keep our 2m distance and of good hand hygiene. This friendly video urges us all to hold firm and we will succeed together.

West Cork youth capture unique views of lockdown

Young People of the Baltimore Foróige Club in West Cork took their cameras along while on their 2km walks during the Covid 19 social distancing lockdown. As a group they decided to combine their observational photographs into a lockdown legacy project. They captured their views of life in lockdown in scenic Baltimore and the surrounding areas. Although they were limited to 2km on their walks, they discovered that although the images are similar their views were always unique.

Balbriggan Foróige Club created a video from a distance

Balbriggan Youth Service in north Co. Dublin worked together while keeping apart to create a song and accompanying video about their time in lockdown. Over eight weeks they worked through the process from idea to recording. Each week they set about coming up with ideas, writing lyrics, deciding on music and deciding who was to work on each task. They recorded the song through Zoom, edited in with Garageband and made a video by having the young people use email or whatsapp to send video, photographs and art to be edited together. They learned how to collaborated as a team remotely, pull together and focus on their end goal. Well done to all involved in this team.

Class work from all around Co. Donegal

Together, Youth Workers and young people in Donegal made a video showing how they have stayed connected in a time of social distancing. They came up with inspired ways to come together while staying apart. From Tea and Tunes with John to online bake offs where they invented some delicious new recipes to Be Healthy Be Happy with Caoimhe. They have left no stone unturned when looking for ways to keep checking in with their Foróige friends to offer support and keep spirits up during isolation.

Foróige Fitfest support young people to reconnect as the lockdown lifts

Foróige Donegal have planned three events for the summer to help support young people to safely rejoin their communities as the lockdown lifts. The first 5km solstice walk took place on Saturday where over 100 people from the county walked in family groups or within socially distanced guidelines. In July A 'Tunes and Chats' event is planned and the third event in August is 'Hope in the a Pandemic'. These events are supported by Healthy Ireland and Donegal Local Community Development Committee.

Susan McLoughlin Foróige Project Leader, said: "By the end of the summer our aim is that every young person that engages in our Foróige projects and services will be more confident, feel reconnected to their friends and to their community, and ready to face the challenges ahead with increased resilience and strength knowing that we are fully behind them, supporting them all the way".
