We are shocked and deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Séumas O’Brien, former National Chairperson of Foróige (2004-2006). Séumas was a current serving member of the organisation’s National Council, a volunteer with Glanmire Youth Project and former Club Leader of Knockraha Foróige Club in Co. Cork.
Séumas was a tower of quiet strength and wisdom. He was a remarkable man who was driven by a deep concern for other people and a profound belief in the potential of every young person.
For their Citizenship Project, they started a monthly youth newspaper to spread positivity and awareness about minding your mental health.
This year is the fiftieth anniversary of the Youth Citizenship Programme, which was first run by Foróige in 1969. 2019 has been the biggest year for the programme ever, with over 14,000 young people taking part.
