Young People from Foróige NFTE Head to The Big Apple

Alan November 21, 2023

Foróige’s Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship programme attended the second annual World Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge in New York City in mid November 2023. The global competition showcases the incredible talent and creativity of young entrepreneurs from around the globe.

The event brought together 23 students from 11 different countries from around the world to compete in a high-stakes pitch competition at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York City.

Foróige were proud to be represented by our NFTE young people in Clear Cut Jewellery - Meadhbh Sammon, Tempy Stock, Elaine McSweeney and Aoife O’Shea from Colaiste Pobail Bheanntrai. Clear Cut Jewellery is a Foróige NFTE company that produces jewellery and seasonal decorations in a new and exciting way. The product is a sustainable and innovative jewellery and seasonal decoration range made using recycled glass and resin. The team use old glass bottles that they would hate to see wasted and then incorporate the glass into resin to create stunning and unique pieces. They presented their business to a prestigious panel of judges at the global awards in New York.

This was such an excellent opportunity to showcase the talent of the Foróige NFTE young people on the international stage. It was also an amazing opportunity for all the young people involved to participate in workshops, learning groups, presentations and hearing from fantastic guest speakers.

Foróige has been a strong part of the NFTE Global network since 2009 and is currently the second largest country to the US in the NFTE growth and developments across the world. This was also a wonderful opportunity for the global partners to come together to strengthen the network, continue to work on following a shared vision and values as well as to promote growth on a global level.

“It was all like a dream. We never in our wildest dreams ever could imagine we would be representing Ireland on the Global stage. This has been an opportunity of a lifetime and one we will remember forever!” said Aoife O’Shea, a member of the Clear Cut Jewellery team.

The World Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge was hosted by NFTE US and presented by Ernst & Young LLP (EY US) and Zuora, with support from PayPal and Santander.
