Did You Know?
BBBS is Ireland’s leading youth mentoring programme that matches a volunteer to a young person who would benefit from extra support. Last year our Foróige supported programme enabled 3,153 young people in our community and school programmes across 11 counties, and we hope to build on this in 2013.
It’s a very exciting time for our programme as we recently presented a copy of our Evaluation Report by NUI Galway to President Michael D. Higgins in Aras an Uachtarán. The findings of the Evaluation Report confirm that involvement in BBBS has positive outcomes for young people.
Young people with a mentor are more hopeful about the future and feel better supported than those without a mentor. The study also shows positive trends in relation to education; matched young people were seen to like school better and show greater intent to finish school than those without a mentor. In terms of implementation the programme is described as an example of ‘best practice’ in services for young people in Ireland. So, it’s all good!
You too can make a positive difference in the life of a young person today and into the future. If you're interested in getting involved as a volunteer or supporting the BBBS programme, please do contact us!
