Members and Leaders are Jumping for Joy after completing a marathon task
Ratheniska Foróige Club, Co. Laois have been zooming in more ways than one in the past week. Foróige leader Brian Phelan challenged members to run more than the leaders before the next club meeting last Friday night and if the members won, then the leaders would treat them all to pizza as soon as their Foróige Club can reopen.
The offer of pizza motivated the members to rise to the challenge and the leaders began getting worried as the members started sharing the photographic evidence of the distance they had covered throughout the week.
The leader’s efforts suffered a setback early, as two leaders suffered injuries and could no longer participate but members agreed that their parents could assist in registering some adult miles. Last Friday night the tally was in and the Members had completed 344.27km to the Leaders 294.17km – victory for the members.
Their running didn’t stop there as during the week members became aware of Portlaoise Athletics Club’s challenge of doing 2000km in a day on Sunday 26th April for #doitfordan so the club decided to get involved in this and on Sunday last the club ran a further 432.43km together and raised some funds towards the cause. To put their running in perspective the members and leaders of Ratheniska Foróige Club ran 1070.87km over eight days, the equivalent of 25 marathons! Well done to all who took part and rose to this Challenge.
