Summer is a great time for young people.  The days are long and bright, there is no school and possibilities for fun seem endless.  However, for many young people the opportunities to enjoy summer activities are limited. This is a time when young people can lose contact with their peers and become disengaged from support systems such as school and communities.  Foróige, through its nationwide network (150) of Local Youth Development Projects and Local Youth Services, operates a number of summer programmes to help these young people to have fun, to make new friends and to develop skills and confidence to enable them to fulfil their potential as human beings and as members of their communities. Some of the highlights of the summer on the Foróige Calendar are:

Nationwide

The hottest names in Irish music will perform at the Foróige Band on the Strand Music festival, taking place in Mayo on Saturday July 6th. More than 3,000 teenagers from across the country are expected to descend on Lacken Strand for the annual music festival which will see performances by Keywest, Walking on Cars, Stonefree, Mojo Gogo and more! Tickets, priced between €15 and €20, are available to young people involved with Foróige, though non-Foróige members can also attend.

Nationwide

Foróige’s Leadership programme recognises the leadership capabilities and potential in young people so that they can aspire to being future leaders. The Foróige Leadership Conference is held annually and is now one of the highlights of the Foróige calendar. More than 350 young people from around the world are expected to attend this year’s conference taking place in NUI Maynooth July 29 – August 2. Places for Irish participants are exclusive to Foróige members only.
