Mayo Foróige District Council in conjunction with Lacken Foróige Club are hosting ‘Band on the Strand’ on Saturday, 27th June 2015 from 8pm to midnight. This is the 8th year of the festival. The gates will open at 7pm and close at 8pm.
My first Reference Panel weekend was one of the best weekends of my life without a doubt. I must say I was quite nervous about the weekend but once I got to meet all the other young people my nerves completely disappeared. Our first evening started off by learning about how Foróige helps us. It was great hearing other people’s stories about how Foróige helped them. Next was for us to get into groups and talk about Foróige. I loved the group work and I felt as if I was making a difference when we had to say how we felt Foróige could help make a change in young people's lives.
Volunteers from across Ireland are hoping to raise vital funds for their local Foróige clubs and projects in the run up to the festive season. The hard working volunteers are raising much needed funds thanks to Tesco, which is hosting a national bag pack for the charity across 79 of its stores nationwide. Foróige volunteers – as well as young people involved in the organisation’s clubs and projects - will be on hand helping shoppers pack their groceries in the Tesco stores in nationally on Saturday December 13th.
Foróige volunteer Annette Woolley has won a Volunteer Ireland Award in the category of Youth and Children. Annette is a role model, leader and mentor to countless children and teenagers that she volunteers with. She founded and coordinates 3 multi award winning youth clubs in Jobstown and Tallaght. They are the MC Teens, Kreative Kidz and the Little Monsters clubs which cater to young people from 7 to 18 yrs old. Annette delivers leadership and entrepreneurship programmes to young people and not only that, she is also the Chairperson of Foróige's Council in Tallaght!
As a youth development organisation, it’s essential for us to consult with young people to ensure we are meeting their needs.
For over 30 years, the Foróige Reference Panel has been fulfilling the role. This group has had a huge influence on many decisions and initiatives in Foróige.
So how do you get on to Foróige’s Reference Panel – a group of 64 young people who get together make recommendations to our National Council and bring about change, while representing 54,000 young people involved nationally?
FAB Feb (Foróige Against Bullying month) is coming soon and we are urging Foróige Clubs and Projects to get involved. The central purpose is to create awareness of positive self image among young people. Positive self image is about being happy in yourself and comfortable in your own skin. It is about being able to express yourself when with others and not being confined by negative pressures and put downs by others. It is the ability to accept your own limitations and flaws and focusing on the positives. It is about finding your own path in life - not following the crowd.
