Foróige is now offering facilitator training for three of the organisation’s successful, youth-orientated programmes.
Be Healthy Be Happy is a holistic health and well-being programme which explores physical, mental, social and spiritual health. Leadership for Life is an exciting programme that enables young people to develop the skills and qualities of good leadership and challenges them to use these skills for the betterment of society. The REAL U (Relationships Explored and Life Uncovered) programme is an evidence-based personal development and sex education programme aimed at equipping young people with the skills, knowledge and confidence to develop healthy relationships and delay the onset of early sexual activity.
1. Be Healthy, Be Happy: Health and Well-being Programme
Programme Description
Be Healthy, Be Happy is a holistic health and well-being programme which explores physical, mental, social and spiritual health. The health and well-being programme will assist young people aged 12-18 years in developing an awareness of their unique qualities and potential. The programme will help young people develop effective coping skills and challenge attitudes to risky behaviours which will in turn influence the choices and decisions they make affecting their health and well-being.
The programme is divided into 24 hours of content on the four dimensions of health split over Module 1 and 2. The programme can be used with groups or with individual young people. The programme covers topics such as nutrition, exercise, stress, sleep, social skills, friendships, bullying, personality types, social identity, personal strengths and talents, positive and negative self-talk, thoughts and feelings, spiritual qualities such as kindness, compassion, gratitude, forgiveness, fairness, love and peace; as well as relaxation techniques.
Facilitator Training Description:
The two-day Be Healthy, Be Happy Training is lively and interactive, using experiential learning techniques to equip training participants with the skills needed to facilitate the Be Healthy, Be Happy programme with young people aged 12-18 years.
Following the training, participants will be able to:
• Describe the holistic health framework to others.
• Give examples of how the four sections: physical, social, mental and spiritual health complements each other.
• Facilitate the programme in their projects with groups or through one-to-one work.

2. Leadership for Life
Programme Description
Foróige’s international youth leadership initiative, the Albert Schweitzer Leadership for Life Programme (ASLFL), is an exciting programme that enables young people to develop the skills and qualities of good leadership and challenges them to use these skills for the betterment of society. In addition, this programme is accredited through NUI Galway and participants are offered the opportunity to graduate with a Foundation Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action.
The ASLFL programme is designed to be facilitated by a trained leader with a group of 10-20 young people aged 15+. The programme has been successfully delivered in schools, youth projects and youth clubs.
Programme Implementation Costs
Each participant requires a workbook for modules 1 and 2. Workbooks are ordered through Foróige’s Training, Learning and Development Function.
Participants undertaking the programme outside of Foróige are required to register themselves with NUI Galway for the Foundation Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action if they would like to receive the accreditation. Module 1 and 2 can be completed without applying for accreditation and recognition can be given in the form of local certificates.
Facilitator Training Description
The two-day Leadership for Life Training is lively and interactive, using experiential learning techniques to equip participants with the skills needed to facilitate the leadership for life programme with young people aged 15+ years in a group work setting.
Following the training, participants will be able to:
Use interactive approaches to exploring youth leadership with young people
Understand the theoretical basis upon which the leadership programme has been developed
Facilitate the development of youth leaders in their community
Support participants and grade the workbooks for the NUI Galway Accredited Foundation Certificate in Youth Leadership and Community Action

Non-Foróige Participants: €250 per person.

3. Relationships Explored and Life Uncovered
Programme Description
The REAL U (Relationships Explored and Life Uncovered) programme is an evidence-based personal development and sex education programme aimed at equipping young people with the skills, knowledge and confidence to develop healthy relationships and delay the onset of early sexual activity. REAL U was developed by Foróige in response to an identified need to enhance service delivery to young people in the area of sexual health.
This programme is designed to be facilitated by a trained facilitator with groups of no more than 10 for young people aged 12 -18 years old. The programme has been successfully delivered in schools, youth projects and youth clubs.
Facilitator Training Description:
The two-day Relationships Explored and Life Uncovered (REAL U) Training is lively and interactive, using experiential learning techniques to equip participants with the skills needed to facilitate the relationships and sexuality programme with young people aged 12 – 18 years in a group work setting.
Following the training, participants will be able to:
• Use interactive approaches to exploring relationships and sexuality with young people
• Understand the theoretical basis upon which the relationship and sexuality programme has been developed
• Be able to use the facilitator’s manual to deliver the REAL U programme with young people
