Foróige Societies in colleges are proving a massive hit with former members, current volunteers and people who have never even been involved with the organisation prior to joining the society! So far almost €2,000 euro has been raised for Foróige during RAG Week in Athlone, there has been a Table Quiz in NUIG, we’ve received a donation from NUIG Engineering Society and we’ve also held a successful book sale in Athlone IT. These societies are full of fun and there are already big plans underway for 2014 with a nationwide event for all college societies in the pipeline. The testimonials are already rolling in!
Rosa Shine, member of the NUIG Foróige Society says: "I see it as a good way to meet new people, and help make a difference in young people's lives! It will be hopefully become one of the main outlets for people in NUIG who wish to volunteer."
Megan Smith, NUI Maynooth Society member and Foróige Volunteer: "I'm involved in the Foroige Society because I'm not willing to give up the opportunity off being involved in an organisation that has helped me develop personally already. This way I can stay involved and meet more like minded people. Because of it I'm already involved in a 10-12 Foróige Junior Club in Maynooth and I've decided to get involved in the long process of making our campus a green campus."
So if you’re commencing college this September, be sure to check if there is a Foróige Society in your college. If there isn’t, you could be the very person to start one! The society proves to be a great social outlet and great way to meet new friends and reconnect with old ones.
