The last time the Dublin Senior hurlers and footballers won the Leinster double before 2013, World War 2 was in progress! That’s a long time to wait. To mark the occasion, the young people of Foróige’s H.A.Y. Project in Summerhill chose to honour the capital’s heroes in the most eye-catching fashion – a graffiti mural, soaked in navies and blues. The young artists - all of whom live in the shadow of Croke Park - worked diligently on a giant “Up The Dubs!” graffiti mural this week as part of their Summer Programme with the help of Irish graffiti legend RASK.The mural is located in Aldborough Place in Dublin 1 and their creation sparked a wonderful online reaction from those it intended to honour. Paul Flynn (goal scorer in the Leinster football final) called it “savage” and footballers Ciaran Kilkenny, Philly McMahon and Jack McCaffrey and hurler Simon Lambert all gave the young people’s work the thumbs up on twitter. Even Des Cahill (presenter of The Sunday Game) took time to mention the young people’s work. From the outset, the young people had a huge influence in the design and execution and it is only right that they can now brag to their mates and take pride in the stunning piece that adorns their community. Participants were aged 10 to 16. The HAY Project is a Foróige Garda Youth Diversion project located in Summerhill, Dublin 1.
