Aldi Foróige National Junior Baking Competition 2019

The Aldi Foróige Junior Baking Competition offers young people a chance to showcase their baking skills and be in with a chance to have their cake sold in Aldi stores nationwide.

What is the theme?

The theme for 2019 is Chocolate Fudge Cake. Entrants will be asked to bake a loaf shaped, lemon drizzle cake that does not exceed 2lb/450g. This is a standard size loaf tin. 

Prizes

1st Place: The winning cake will be for sale nationwide in Aldi stores. There will also be an individual prize 

2nd Place: Aldi Vouchers

3rd Place: Aldi Vouchers

4th Place: Aldi Vouchers

How does the competition work?

The first stage of the competition will be at county level. All county level competitions are to take place before 31st May, 2019. There will be one winner per county except in cases where there is a concentration of clubs and projects two county representatives will qualify for the regional final (Mayo, Cork, Dublin North and Dublin South). There is no requirement to bake in front of others – simply bring the cake and the recipe to be judged. 

County Prizes

The prize for the county competition is entry to the Regional Final, €20 Aldi vouchers and a bag of Aldi baking products. These prizes will be given to the County Finalists at their Regional Final.

 

Regional Finals

There will be four regional finals in July - South, West, East and Midlands. Two winners from each region will qualify to compete in the semi-finals at the National Ploughing Championships in September 2018. At the Regional Finals participants will be requested to bake in front of the judges and the organisers. 

Two national semi-finalists will be selected at each regional final – 8 in total.

National Finals

The semi-finals and the final will take place in the Aldi tent at the National Ploughing Championships in Ballintrane, Fenagh, Co. Carlow. At the semi-finals and finals participants will be required to bake in front of an audience  

There will be two semi-finals on 17th and 18th September.

The contestants placed first and second in each heat will qualify for the final on Thursday 19th September.

All expenses for semi-finalists and finalists will be covered (including accommodation).

Who can enter?

The competition is open to any young person between the ages of 12 and 18 that is currently a member of a Foróige Club/Project/BBBS. Winning at county or regional level in 2016, 2017 or 2018 does not exclude entering the 2019 competition. However, previous national winners of the National Junior Baking Competition are ineligible to enter.
