Activating Social Empathy is Foróige’s programme for 15 to 18 year olds, designed to help young people understand what empathy really is, why it matters, and how it can be used to spark meaningful change – both in their lives and in the wider world.
Empathy has been linked to:
- Stronger friendships and peer relationships
- Better academic outcomes
- Greater social competence
- Lower levels of aggression and prejudice
Through a mix of group discussions, activities and reflection, the programme invites young people to:
- Explore how empathy works
- Develop their ability to listen and take another person’s perspective
- Recognise shared values and experiences
- Understand barriers to empathy – and how to overcome them
- Consider empathy’s role in creating a fairer society
The goal isn’t just to think about empathy – it’s to practise it. To notice others. To connect more deeply. And to use that understanding to shape a kinder, more inclusive world.
