The Foróige Citizenship Programme empowers young people to become changemakers – to look at their local community with fresh eyes, identify what matters, and take meaningful action. Whether that’s planting trees, organising a colour run, campaigning for accessibility, or creating connections across generations, every project begins with a spark of insight and the drive to do something good.
Young people learn to research community needs, organise and deliver a response, reflect on the outcome, and celebrate the difference they’ve made. The impact is real – not just in the community, but in their own confidence, leadership and sense of belonging.
Citizenship projects happen in Foróige Clubs, Projects and Mentoring matches across the country, and are celebrated every year through a series of Regional Citizenship Showcases – joyful, local events that highlight the creativity, commitment and community spirit of young people involved. From Athlone to Castlebar to Portlaoise, these gatherings shine a spotlight on incredible projects and the passion behind them.
