School Based Mentoring

Starting secondary school can be a big adjustment, and Foróige’s School Based Mentoring programme helps first year students settle in by pairing them with trained senior cycle students. These mentoring relationships provide guidance, encouragement, and a friendly face within the school, making the transition smoother and more positive. Matches meet once a week throughout the academic year, engaging in activities like games, sports, and discussions that build confidence and social connections.

This programme is delivered in partnership with schools and trained staff, ensuring that both mentors and younger students receive the support they need. The mentoring process not only helps first-year students feel more at home in their new environment but also develops leadership skills in senior students. With a strong emphasis on peer support and positive role models, School Based Mentoring fosters a sense of belonging and community within schools, creating lasting benefits for all involved.

Helping first-year students find their feet.
