International Youth Leadership Conference Cultivates the Next Barack Obama
Monday 17th August 2009: An inaugural international youth leadership conference, which will fuel the innate leadership qualities of young people from around the world by empowering and inspiring them to become the next Barack Obama, Martin Luther King, Bob Geldof, Mother Theresa or Nelsen Mandela, opened in Dublin today. ‘The Albert Schweitzer’s Leadership for Life’ (ASLFL) Programme, developed by Foróige in Ireland in partnership with ICCUSA Foundation Inc. (Irish Chamber of Commerce, USA), offers an exciting and pioneering approach to youth leadership by helping young global citizens develop the skills, vision and confidence to become effective leaders.

New Research among 10 to 17 year olds provides a “personal” view into the lives of teenagers
• Saying “no” to alcohol could be a problem for over half (56%) of older teenagers, aged between 15 and 17, while out socialising

• Ganging up on quieter kids and exclusion identified as the most prevalent forms of bullying

• Relationships with family and friends more important than having enough money young people say

• Over half of teenagers (59%) believe they “aren’t as bad as everyone makes them out to be”

Young Active Citizens Honoured at 5 Regional Recognition Events
Five regional recognition events in Cavan, Galway, Dublin, Tullamore and Cork marked the kick-off of the permanent tsb Foróige Youth Citizenship Awards 2008. The awards are part of the ‘permanent tsb Foróige Youth Citizenship Programme’, an out of school education initiative encouraging young people to use their talents to contribute positively to their local areas. The programme also has an impact on the young people who become involved by fostering self-development, new life skills, friendships and self esteem which young people can carry with them throughout their lives.

20 Clubs Honoured at the 1st Annual permanent tsb Foroige Youth Citizenship Awards
Foróige groups from around the country enjoyed a special evening of celebration on Friday 2nd November last as they were honoured for their outstanding work in the community and awarded a ‘permanent tsb Foróige Youth Citizenship Award’. The awards are part of the permanent tsb Foróige Youth Citizenship Programme - an out-of-school educational programme teaching young people about their community and encouraging them to become active citizens.

Foróige launched their new corporate identity in the Office of the Ombudsman for Children, Great Strand Street, on Thursday, 27th October. The identity was developed in conjunction with Red Dog Design Consultants, to represent Foróige’s core purpose, philosophy and values.
