Health and Wellbeing Programme

Foróige’s health and wellbeing programme promotes a balanced and fully rounded lifestyle for young people by focusing on positive physical, mental, social and community health. The combination of these core health related areas help you to live a fuller life. The health and wellbeing programme can be run in your club or project or at regional level through your district council.
The programme helps participants to:

  • Take greater control of their own health and wellbeing
  • Develop a healthier lifestyle
  • Avoid dangers to health (eg drugs, bullying)
  • Learn to deal with stress and pressure
  • Create a healthier community in your area

Get Involved

In your Club / Project
Download the health and wellbeing leaflet and get going on a project with your group. You could organise activities to improve members’ physical health like a sports day. Or, why not organise a first aid course. Maybe you could even look into the effects of smoking, alcohol and drug abuse on your health. Whatever you decide to do this leaflet will give you some great tips on how to get started and keep the momentum of your project high so you can complete it successfully.

Through your District Councils
Foróige is currently running a grant scheme to provide District Councils with an opportunity to run health and wellbeing promoting activities at a regional level for clubs in their area. It’s been a great success to date with District Councils all over the country hosting a vast array of programmes. The idea is that clubs from a particular region would have the opportunity to put a number of members forward to participate in a programme which may take the form of a residential, a day of workshops with guest speakers or a programme run on one evening over the course of a few weeks. These members will then return to their club and feedback what they have learned. They may, in some cases, act as mentors to younger members in the club.
