Thousands Visit Foróige Community Gardens

Thousands of people visited the Foróige Community Gardens at this year's National Ploughing Championships in Tullamore.

Familiar faces including Micheál Martin, Nicky Byrne and Síle Seoige spent time viewing the beautiful gardens, created by young people from Donegal and offaly.

Forty young people from Ballycumber Foróige Club in Offaly & Ballyshannon NYP, the Deck in Donegal Town & Killybegs Youth Project and Drop-in Centre in Donegal worked hard throughout the summer creating gardens.

Donegal’s Community Garden was based upon a fairy and marine theme, inspired by the poetry of William Allingham and the Wild Atlantic Way.

Offaly’s Community Garden portrayed the beauty of the bog incorporating a railway motif.

ALDI sponsored the plants and materials for the young people and provided them with a unique opportunity to learn about gardening processes while they were mentored by landscape experts SAP.

During the 3 day event we spoke to Anna May McHugh, Managing Director of the National Ploughing Association, who had some very encouraging words for Foróige members.
