Mayfield teens launch Rap Video about mental health

This afternoon marked the official launch of 'Reach Out, Speak Out', a rap about mental health, which was written and performed by young people at the Foróige Mayfield Youth Initiative.

The group approached Foróige Youth Worker Deirdre Dennigan with their concerns about the high rates of teenage bullying, anxiety, depression and suicide. Together they worked with Garry McCarthy from GMCBeats Workshops (gmcbeats.com) to write, produce and record a song and video on these issues.

Written and performed by Shane Keane, Trisha Sexton and Paul Woods, their work holds very powerful and touching messages from teens to teens and the wider community about the importance of reaching out and speaking out about mental health and letting people know they are not alone and there is help available.

The young people also received a 'Ones to Watch' award for the rap at the recent Aldi Foróige Youth Citizenship Awards.

Congratulations to everyone involved!!
