Huge congratulations to Killimordaly/Killtulla Foróige club from Co. Galway, who won the Foróige Youth Citizenship Awards in partnership with Aldi Ireland.

The group carried out a project to raise awareness of, and funds for, defibrillators in their community.

The young people said they were motivated to carry out the campaign, following the death some years ago of a local woman from sudden cardiac arrest.

Rebecca Cannon, a member of the group, said: “We want to keep pushing out the message that defibrillators save lives as far and as wide as we can,”.

Two thousand young people, and hundreds of volunteers, attended the awards at Citywest Hotel and Conference Centre on Saturday to celebrate the work of young people in the community over the past year.

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Dr Katherine Zappone TD opened the event, 2FM's Eoghan McDermott MD'd the awards, while it also featured talks from disability rights campaigner Joanne O’Riordan, and social media expert Darragh Doyle.

The young people also enjoyed a wide variety of activities, including indoor rock climbing and abseiling, a snowboarding simulator, recording studio, miniature golf, and a performance from Keywest.
