150 young people, engaged with Foróige Tallaght, celebrated their involvement in the Youth Citizenship Programme.

29 groups of young people recently gathered in Tallaght Stadium to see a video representation of their innovative work to improve, or enhance their community.

The Mayor of South Dublin County Council Cllr. Sarah Holland, Sandra McIntyre, the National Chairperson Foróige and Minister for Youth and Child Affairs Dr. Katherine Zappone TD, each presented Certificates to the participating groups.

The event was MC’ed by Foróige Club members Charlotte Lahert and Karl Jones and entertainment was provided by the talented local young musicians ’Established’, singer - Caitlin Nolan and dancer Carl Dunbar, and Magician - Liam Mc Mahon Buggy.

The range of projects undertaken included campaigning for play space for children; fundraising for charities; local and international awareness raising regarding youth issues around stress; mental health; bullying; and inclusion. 1916 was commemorated by burying a time capsule, and groups organised activities for children, young people and the elderly.

The whole event reflected how young people rise to the challenge, take responsibility, and prove themselves to be caring responsible citizens who are genuinely interested in their communities.
